The problem
Ageing infrastructure: existing water meters could not deliver timely, accurate data. Distributed locations: the three sites required a robust network for centralised monitoring across South Auckland. Leak detection issues: without real-time insights, leaks often went unnoticed for weeks. Manual processes: manual readings introduced inefficiencies and increased the potential for human error.
What we did
Smart Metering developed and deployed an IoT-enabled metering system tailored to Americold's operations. Seamless network coverage: used the One NZ (a New Zealand mobile carrier) NB-IoT network across all three sites. Infrastructure upgrades: installed B METERS GMD-RP-I industrial water meters with NB-IoT pulse devices providing live, twice-daily data updates. Real-time monitoring and leak detection: instant alerts for abnormal water usage. Collaborative deployment: worked closely with Americold's team to minimise disruption during implementation.
The outcome
Improved operational efficiency, with real-time data allowing Americold to quickly identify and resolve issues. Significant cost savings from optimised water usage and eliminated waste. Reliable network coverage across multiple distributed sites. Enhanced sustainability through reduced water wastage, aligned with Americold's environmental goals. A future-ready system, scalable for future expansions.
