The problem
The farm relied on manual reads. Weekly readings, required every three months for council compliance, involved laborious manual input, risking inaccuracies and consuming valuable time. The outdated metering system stood in stark contrast to the modern infrastructure elsewhere on the farm.
What we did
Using device-agnostic technology, Smart Metering integrated an NB-IoT pulse device with the existing Arad water meter, saving cost and minimising disruption. The pulse device transmits water consumption data twice daily to Smart Metering's servers over One NZ's NB-IoT network (New Zealand). The data is instantly accessible to Brian via the cloud-based platform.
The outcome
Efficiency and accuracy: automated daily readings eliminate manual errors and delays. Seamless integration: the device-agnostic solution worked with the existing Arad meter. Remote monitoring: Brian can monitor water consumption from anywhere. Compliance made easy: Parakai Birds can provide Auckland Council with accurate and timely reports, and Smart Metering is working with the council to enable direct data feeds into the Water Use Management Data System (WUMDS) using the farm's water consent number, further streamlining compliance reporting.
